Lisa Levitt
is a writer, archivist, and granddaughter of immigrants who painted their way through upheaval.
Her work is rooted in a family history that spans continents from Hungary to the United States, from companies lost to communist nationalization to a grandmother who built an art gallery in Manhattan from scratch. These are not just family stories. They are windows into the larger forces of the twentieth century: migration, loss, reinvention, and the quiet persistence of culture across generations.
An archive is never finished. It grows as new letters surface, new connections emerge, and new forms are found to carry the story forward. Lisa works across documentary film, writing, theatre, and exhibition – gathering scattered artworks, letters, and documents, and finding the shapes they want to take.
A documentary is currently in production. A play is in development. More to come!
